What is polyester resin?

Polyester resin is a type of thermosetting polymer, that is, a plastic that permanently hardens when exposed to heat or certain chemicals.

How is this made?

Polyester resin is composed of a combination of acids, anhydrides, glycols and unsaturated monomers, which chemically react to form a three-dimensional network of polymer chains. It is generally manufactured through a chemical reaction known as polymerization, where unsaturated monomers are linked together under certain temperature and pressure conditions with the help of a catalyst. This process results in a viscous, sticky substance that can be molded or poured into molds to form the desired shape.

What is it for?

In terms of applications, polyester resin is commonly used in the manufacturing of products such as boats, swimming pools, storage tanks, automobile parts, aircraft components, plastic furniture, protective coatings, and much more. Due to its corrosion resistance, moldability and low production cost, it has become a key material in various industries.
